BitTorrent to open digital-media store

BitTorrent to open digital-media store (CNet News.com)

BitTorrent has developed the reputation of being a tool for internet pirates to distribute and share movies, software, and music. The company responsible for developing the software is now attempting to create a legitimate use for their software through the distribution of movies and television shows. They will charge a small fee for downloading movies 2.99-3.99 and you can watch the movie for 24 hours.
BitTorrent is a file distribution system that uses the bandwidth of its users to distribute to other users. You do not simply download files but your computer automatically uploads parts of that same file you are downloading to the other users attempting to download. In a perfect world this system would mean the more users that are downloading, the more available upload bandwidth, and therefore the faster the download.
I do not see this system being successful because there are currently so many options for illegally downloading movies that offer better experiences. An illegally downloaded movie is free. You can keep the movie as long as you want. You can burn the movie to a disc, or share it with friends. In some cases illegally downloaded movies even offer higher quality versions of the movie. It is more difficult to download illegally, but the only people I see using this system of downloading are somewhat computer savvy and aren't hindered by the required knowledge to downloading illegally. The only way I see this system working is if they remove the DRM that cripples the usage of the movie. Unfortunately I do not see any improvements to the system coming. The MPAA and RIAA have already proven that rather then improve their product, they rather attack any competition.
