Cybersquatting complaints rise 25 percent, U.N. says (AP news)

Cybersquatting is a serious issue on the internet these days. It has become an investment to buy up lots of domain names and hope you can use them for monetary gain. Someone may look to purchase a domain name from you for much more then you paid for it. You may have a lot of traffic resulting from people accidentally going to your site, generating ad revenue for you. In some cases there also may be fraud resulting from people believing you are a different company. All of these reasons seem shady, and many are illegal. WIPO has been set up to resolve this issue and have sided with the complainant in 84 percent of the cases. I haven't looked at the cases but this sounds pretty reasonable to me. Cybersquatting is an act that really just wastes everyones time and clutters the internet with more advertisements and useless pages. Some may argue that this is merely an investment technique, but I see it as more of fraud then investment.
